On September 12th, Prof. WU Song, the academic leader of the Department of Urology at South China Hospital of Shenzhen University, together with his team, had a high-level Sino-German online academic exchange with Prof. Schlomm, Director of the Department of Urology at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany. The meeting was hosted by HOU Teng, Director of the Department of Urology at South China Hospital of Shenzhen University. Prof. WU Song delivered a welcome speech for the meeting, setting the stage for in-depth dialogue between the two parties. In the subsequent introduction session, Dr. TU Menjiang gave a detailed report on the clinical and research achievements of the Department of Urology at South China Hospital of Shenzhen University. As a young department established only three years ago, the team has demonstrated internationally advanced capabilities through its rapid development and solid accomplishments. Prof. Schlomm expressed high appreciation for these achievements and pointed out that the teams of both parties have natural match in areas such as urological oncology, genomics research, and the application of artificial intelligence in medicine. As a key figure in urology in Europe, Prof. Schlomm delivered a systematic and insightful presentation entitled "Charité-Shenzhen Dialogue: Advancing Urology through Sharing Research and Clinical Experience". In terms of clinical practice, he focused on introducing his team's technique of Full Functional-Length Urethral Sphincter Preservation During Radical Prostatectomy. This innovative surgical method breaks through the limitations of conventional operations, significantly improving patients' postoperative urinary control and quality of life while ensuring effective tumor treatment, and is hailed as an important milestone in enhancing patients' quality of life. Scientifically, Prof. Schlomm demonstrated how they are promoting the development of precision medicine by combining artificial intelligence with genetic data. Through integrated analysis of large-scale real-world data and molecular-level data, they have been able to develop dynamic prediction algorithms that not only help doctors better formulate personalized treatment plans for patients but also provide new insights into understanding disease progression and drug resistance mechanisms. These explorations are gradually changing the diagnosis and treatment model in urology, transforming medicine from "experience-driven" to "data-driven". The meeting was characterized by a warm and sincere atmosphere, with both parties finding much common ground in sharing experiences and exchanging ideas. In the future, the Chinese and German teams both will continue their cooperation, not only learning from each other in clinical diagnosis and treatment but also deeply integrating in scientific research innovation to jointly explore cutting-edge directions in urology. This cross-border dialogue is not only an academic feast but also the starting point of a new journey of cooperation.
