Last Friday, I headed to Shenzhen in person to meet Dr. Olms, the pioneer of foot and ankle surgery in Germany, who flew from Hamburg, Germany to Shenzhen, China for the second time this year. 30 years ago, he founded the "Foot surgery foundation" in Germany, and is the founding President of GFFC (Association for Foot & Ankle Surgery). From December 11 to December 15, Dr. Olms conducted his work as an international visiting professor at the First Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University. His work included outpatient consultations, ward rounds, surgical guidance, internal lectures, discussions on department management and complex cases, and public lecture, etc. At dusk when the sky turned dark, the beauty of the sunset in tangerine with clouds in purple was beyond language. It is proud to work as a doctor. And saving people is the most noble job in this world that should be respected. Director LI Wencui, Head of the Hand And Foot Surgery Dept. in the First Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University, is the very first and top-ranking female foot and ankle surgeon in China. She has an excellent foot and ankle surgery team. Ten years from now, there will be only two extraordinary lifestyles in this world. One is to stay at home, the other is to travel around the world. The era that people work while traveling will soon come. When we saw Dr. Olms off at Shenzhen Baoan Airport, he told us that, He will be devoted in the continuous development of foot and ankle surgery of hospitals worldwide. And this is the sum and substance of his medical career. If people live in a country without goals and belief to serve its people, everyone will only work for their self-satisfaction. And if everyone work only for themselves, the society will become a jungle. Without respect, the society will be trapped in a vicious circle. Only with talents can a hospital become great. And doctors are the reflect of conscience of a nation. It needs hospitals worldwide of every generation to sincerely work hard, pass down the spirit, and help each other. Virtues and techniques are all dependent on the direct teaching of skilled doctors to young doctors. Only if our healthcare system is developed and can really serve people, can our country become a truly strong power in the world. Patriotism for our great country starts from me, from everyone around us.
